Board of Commissioners

King County Fire District 34 is governed by a three-member Board of Commissioners.  Each Commissioner is elected at the General Election and serves a 6 - year term.  There is no salary for Commissioners, but they are compensated $104.00 for each day or portion thereof they work on fire district business.  (RCW 52.14.010)   The Board of Commissioners is responsible for selecting the Chairperson.

Current Board of Commissioners

Position 1 - Peter Lucarelli (appointed 7/25/05, elected January 2006)  Commissioner Lucarelli began his fire service career with the Los Angeles City Fire Department as a recruit firefighter in 1963. He progressed through the ranks to Assistant Chief, when he was recruited as the Bellevue, Washington Fire Chief in 1990. He retired from the Bellevue Fire Department in 2004 and was appointed to fill an unexpected vacancy with the Fire District #34 Board of Fire Commissioners in late 2005. He was elected to a six-year term on the Commission beginning in 2006, and brings a depth of knowledge and understanding to the District regarding the operational, management, and political  challenges that face communities and fire departments in providing contemporary public safety services. He and his spouse Millie live in the Trilogy Redmond Ridge portion of the District and have four adult children and seven grandchildren. Both are avid golfers and love to travel. Position 2 - Thomas Johnston, Chairman ( appointed October 2000, elected Jan. 2002 ) Commissioner Johnston is a self-employed software developer and consultant.  He was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in September, 2000 to fill a vacancy.  He was elected to a six-year term beginning in 2002.
